Healing the Root: Trauma, Spiritual Awakening, and Finding Wholeness| Spiritual Friction
Spiritual Friction
A space for deep feelers · Stories held with care
A conversation on trauma, the body's wisdom, soul fragmentation, and the long way home — with Laura Ellen
There are some healing journeys that don't unfold gradually.
They take us all the way down.
To the wound under the wound. To the story under the story. To the root.
My conversation with Laura Ellen is one of those journeys.
It's the kind of conversation you settle into with both hands wrapped around something warm. The kind where you forget you're listening to a podcast and start to feel like you're sitting on the floor of a friend's living room, hearing her tell you the truth.
Laura is an artist, a jeweler, a spiritual teacher, and the founder of Sacred Heart Healing in Northern California. In this episode, she opens her life to us with tenderness and care.
When the Body Begins to Speak
For years, Laura held her sensitivity quietly.
She had been an empathic child — having paranormal experiences she didn't have language for, sensing things she didn't yet know how to name. And then, at five years old, she experienced sexual abuse. And the world, as it does for so many sensitive children, became too much.
What followed was a long season of numbing.
Drugs. Alcohol. Pushing her body past its limits in the way so many of us do when feeling is unbearable. And then — slowly, layer by layer — the body began to speak.
First her lungs. Then her skin. Then, eventually, a chronic wound at the base of her spine. A fistula. A wound few people talk about. A wound Western medicine had limited answers for.
"Our bodies are incredible vessels of knowledge. It's just that we're not taught to really listen to them."
This is the work Laura was eventually asked to do.
Not to fix.
Not to override.
But to listen.
Healing the Root
The root chakra holds our sense of safety. Our foundation. Our belonging to the earth and to ourselves.
And Laura's wound was literally at her root.
Her body — wise, patient, persistent — was telling her something her mind had not yet been ready to hear.
That she was carrying years of unprocessed trauma. That the foundation underneath her had cracked. That the marriage, the substances, the over-functioning, the soul fragmentation — all of it had been preparing her for a return.
She tried Western options. She considered traveling across the world for healing. And then, quietly, a voice inside her said:
"Laura, you have everything you need inside of you to heal. Just call on faith. Call on a miracle. Miracles happen every day."
So she listened.
She left a marriage that no longer aligned with her path. She set down the substances she had used to numb herself for nearly two decades. She began working with Angelic Reiki, Access Consciousness Bars, homeopathy, and the slow, holy work of meeting her own body with love.
Layer by layer, the onion peeled.
Layer by layer, she came home.
What I Want You to Hear
There's a moment in our conversation where Laura says something that I found so comforting and validating.
She talks about the part of her healing that took the longest — not the physical wound, not the energy work, but the willingness to speak about what she was going through.
"We don't heal hiding under a rock. We heal when we reach out and we share and we co-create and we lean on people for support when we need it."
This is the part of healing no one tells you about.
The body can be tended.
The nervous system can be regulated.
The spiritual practices can be learned.
But the deepest healing happens when we are willing to let ourselves be seen.
In the rawness. In the unfinished places. In the parts of our story that don't yet have a tidy ending.
The Bigger Picture
We talk about past lives — Laura's clear sense of having been a clergyman, a little boy in ancient Ireland, a Native American woman, a priestess. The way the body carries markers from lives we don't fully remember. The way children remember more clearly than we do, because they haven't yet been bogged down by the programming.
We talk about soul contracts. About the way we choose our birth, and the way we choose our death. About the loved ones who become more available to us after they pass, not less.
We talk about the Earth as a living being. About what it means to step out of a parasitic relationship with ourselves and into one of co-creation. About the collective awakening so many of us are inside of right now.
And we talk about coming home.
To the body.
To the gifts.
To the Earth.
To the self we may have spent decades trying to outrun.
A Reflection for You
There's a part of every deep feeler that has always known.
That the sensitivity wasn't a flaw. That the body wasn't the enemy. That the longing for something deeper, slower, truer, more whole was not you being dramatic — it was you remembering.
If you have been carrying a story your body has been trying to tell you…
If you have been numbing what is asking to be felt…
If you have been quietly wondering whether you have what it takes to heal…
You do.
You always have.
You don't have to figure it all out today.
You don't have to know how the healing will unfold.
You just have to be willing to listen.
For the Deep Feelers
You are not too sensitive.
You are not too much.
You are a deep feeler — and your knowing matters.
The body has been listening this whole time.
Maybe it's your turn to listen back. 🤍
